A few years back, my husband was a fanactic about his eating habits. He was really trying to drop body fat and gain a ton of muscle. I knew that he loved fitness but I was really clueless to how extreme and disciplined he was about it. I thought I liked to workout until I got married to my husband. He used to make this crazy intense workouts and want to do them at 7 am on Saturday mornings. And being the newly married wife, I reluctantly would join him. I actually would whine the whole way through as he would try to motivate me. We laugh about it now and 5 years later we actually LOVE to work out together and there’s no whining only lots of high-fives. Phew, thank goodness, right?
Part of the joy that comes with living with a fitness junkie is cooking around their eating habits. Todd wanted everything weighed, measured, and calculated which didn’t mix well with “this sounds good” cooking with several dashes of this and that. Food, in my opinion is supposed to be flavorful, great tasting, and comforting. My hubby saw food for it’s nutritional value. Meat + veggies, meat + fats and then repeat. We used to eat SO MUCH meat. His go to were these frozen turkey patties. Even to this day, I slightly gag whenever I see the package of turkey burgers at the store.
My husband could literally eat the same thing every.single.day while I craved adventure and spontaneity. Thankfully, just like our workout time together we were able to meet in the middle. I learned how to become nutritionally minded and he learned to trust me in the kitchen and even enjoy the added flavors and spice in my cooking.
We haven’t bought turkey burgers in years but that doesn’t mean we still don’t enjoy them. I’ll admit that it took me awhile to eat ground turkey again in the form of a patty but I am so glad I gave turkey burgers a second chance.
I love these turkey burgers. They have GREAT flavor. The added crushed pineapple creates a caramelized sweet flavor that immediately sends my mind on vacation mode in the tropics. The chopped fresh cilantro on top is a must. It’s a tropical party waiting to happen in your mouth. Even my husband, who is not a big cilantro fan, was raving about these Pineapple Turkey Burgers.
I have yet to cook these on the grill but don’t worry they will definitely make it on the grill this summer. SO DELISH!
